There is something about beer and punk. They are both 4 letter words and they seem to be blood brothers. I know. I know. There is the straight edge scene and they’ll preach; maybe even beat you up. But, mostly drunk and punk go hand and hand. Let’s look at a description of gutter punk I located on urbandictionary.com:
A gutter punk is a member of the subculture of punk, who lives primarily on the streets, and who sleeps in alleyways, bushes, parks, on roof tops, and in friends' homes. They are typically characterized by wearing the same clothing day in and day out, along with a general "fuck it" attitude, an odor all of their own, unshaven faces, unkept hair, and a fondness for beer. Gutter punks and street punks are closely related, and can often be confused, with the primary differentiating factor being that street punks are able to take showers, if so desired.
We can clearly see that beer is part of the equation. Smelly, dirty, and fond of beer.

And what’s this band called FREE BEER?
They are one of the old school skate punk bands from 1979! They’d sing songs titled “I Hate Sobriety” and “We can Drink as much as we want”. Interesting that advertising Free Beer would attract skate punks? Hmm…
Das Casualties of Beer
Here are the lyrics for The Casualties’ song “For The Punx””
You always put us down
Cause we spike our hair
Bondage trousers and dyed hair
I'll never change my ways
Don't tell me what to do
Don't tell me what to wear
I'm gonna do it as I please
That's the way we live
DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO SAY
DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO WEAR
OI! OI! WE'RE THE PUNKS OF TODAY (SPIKEY HAIR DRUNK PUNKS)
AND WE'RE PUNKS HERE TO STAY!!!
Who let these egotistical bastards
Get into our scene
Preaching Politics and they tell me how to be
They want to be preaching anarchy
But I'll break their rules that
I was never part of it
DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO SAY
HOW TO BE OR WHAT TO WEAR
OI! OI! WE'RE THE PUNKS OF TODAY (SPIKEY HAIR DRUNK PUNKS)
AND WE'RE PUNKS HERE TO STAY!!!
It's a way of life, Never change your ways
It's a way of life for the punks of today
We play for you, We play for everyone
Power to the punks until the day we die
Never ever change your ways
(2x) Drunk punks of today
Oi! Oi! and we're here to stay
(Spikey Hair Drunk Punks)
Oi! Drunk punks of today
Obviously this song and the entire album are for their fans. This album is an anthem. Drunkenness is part of being punk. Punk as Shit!

Punk As A Doornail has a few beer songs on our debut studio album”Flooging the Punk Horse”. I I guess about three. 3 is a few. There’s a song called 18 Beers with a chorus “Fridge it! Tear it! Drink it!”. Which used to be on 18 packs of macro-brew. Then there’s “Money Better Spent on Beer”, which is parody of blowing your rent money. And of course there’s “Drunk on A Sunday” which was written on a Sunday when we practice. I lot of times we’d have a few too many micro-brews and switch off on macro and whoo wee! Low and behold! A new song!
So we’ve been known to join the tradition. Sometimes we don’t even play any songs at our shows and that when we call it a really brown set.
